Freight Management Solutions for Courier Companies - Freight Management Software

With the right strategy, good business sense and reliable freight management software, even smaller courier companies can compete with the big name freight and courier services.
Essentially your potential clients are looking for a courier company that will give reliable service at a reasonable price, by moving your company online and making sure that you look after your client’s needs you can quickly grow your courier or freight company.
There are a few fundamentals to cover in order for your up and coming enterprise to take off and soar with the big boys.
Improving Courier Process Efficiency
The first objective is to streamline the various phases of the delivery and collection process in order to provide a more efficient service. The more efficient your deliveries are, the more deliveries you’ll be able to take on thus resulting in the more money you will be making. With this in mind it may well be worthwhile to invest in a decent freight management software package.
With a minimal start-up cost you can gain access to all the information you need via an easy to use interface where you can enter waybill information which will assist you in tracking and tracing your parcels in the delivery process.
There are various technologies available for improving your courier process, including the cost effective utilisation of cellular phone technology, by way of sms or text message communication with drivers from dispatch. Real time tracking of deliveries through barcode scanning can be monitored on the internet, by e-mail or by cell phone text messages.
If a delivery passed through the hands of two separate freight companies using the same technology it is possible to track the parcel’s progress all the way to its destination.

Large, Light Parcels Can Break Your Postage Budget - A Canada Post Rule You Need to Know About

If the package you're sending by Canada Post is large but light, you could end up paying a lot more postage than you expected.
This happened to a lady who came to one of my talks on mailing. One Christmas, she decided to have some fun with her niece in Europe by sending her a tiny gift in a huge box filled mostly with foam peanuts. It weighed next to nothing, but the aunt ended up paying nearly $150 in postage. (She would've taken everything home and repackaged the gift if it hadn't been too late.) It was an expensive way to learn that weight isn't the only thing Canada Post considers when it charges postage.
Many Canadians aren't aware that the Postal Guide says, "Volumetric weight is charged when items of any shape are large in size and light in weight. The shipping price is based on the greater of the volumetric weight or the actual weight."
What is volumetric weight? It's simply the length times the width times the height of the package, divided by a "cubing factor" - 6,000 if you're using metric, 166 for pounds.
The Postal Guide gives an example of a package that weighs 22.7 kilos and measures 100 by 60 by 40 centimetres. This brings the volumetric weight up to 40 kilos. As of this writing, mailing a regular parcel like that from BC to Newfoundland costs $72.86. (You probably don't want to know how much it costs by Xpresspost, let alone Priority.)

Be An Owner Driver Through Courier Jobs

Delivering packages to other people does not mean that you have to work permanently for a certain company for as long as they want you. There is such a thing as freelance courier jobs wherein you can be an owner driver. You get to decide the duration that you want to stay within that courier firm. Promotional Pens - How Courier Companies Can Benefit From Using Promotional Items

For a courier service business owner, the competition can be hectic. There are so many other courier services that a courier company will need to compete against for customers and they must always find some new marketing tactics to help distinguish themselves from the many other courier services out there. Besides the good service that a courier service can offer and great pricing, they must find other ways to stay in the minds of companies and be remembered when a company is in need of a courier service. The key to be remembered is to offer promotional products!
The best way for a courier service to promote their business via promotional products is to offer free promotional items to new or existing customers. These promotional gifts will have your courier service business name on them and will constantly keep your courier companies name in the minds of others. You can use many things as promotional items such as mugs or key chains but one of the best business gifts that a courier company can use as a promotional item is printed pens. Using promotional pens is a marketing tactic that many companies use to keep their company and services in the minds of possible future customers as well as existing customers as they will be repeatedly using your printed pens throughout their days and your company's name will eventually stick in their minds. This is great when they are in need of a courier service because they will right away think of the company that they see on their printed pens every single day and may even have the convenience of pulling one right out of their trouser pocket or shirt pocket on the spot.
Besides the courier service name on the personalised pens you will also want to have a phone number and any other contact information you wish to have on the customised pens. You will want to make sure that you can be contacted as easily as possible so all contact information you have should be included on these business gifts.
Promotional pens are not expensive at all and you will be able to give away hundreds or even thousands of them to your existing and potential customers. Besides the marketing tactics you will be using by giving your promotional pens away, you will also find yourself with some grateful businesses that appreciate your kind gestures. Do not ever think that things like this go unnoticed!

Tips For Reducing Small Parcel Transportation Cost

By considering the following, you can quickly and easily reduce your small parcel shipping costs.
Validate Addresses Prior to Shipping
The on-time delivery of a customer's order begins with a valid and deliverable address. While the most common errors are misspellings or "typos", omitting key address data such as suite or apartment number, street extensions (Rd., Ave., Blvd., Hwy., Expy., St., etc.) or directionals (W, S, SE, SW, N, NE, etc.) ensures that at best your customer's order will be delivered late, and at worse result in a return. Also, did you know that carrier's charge you between $7 and $10 for each bad address?
Mark Addresses as Residential or Commercial
Carriers invoice shippers a surcharge for delivery to residential addresses. When you consider that 91% of the 140 million delivery points in the United States are classified as residential, the ability to identify deliveries up front can add up to substantial savings. By doing this you guarantee that when you ship to a residence or business, you are shipping and billing at the correct rate. If you leave this to chance, you can expect to receive a non-recoverable billing adjustment on your weekly carrier invoice.
Dimensionally Rate Packages
If any of your packages have a large size-to-weight ratio you need to consider the package's dimension when calculating shipping rates. Not doing so can cost you plenty. How do you know if you have this problem? Look at your weekly carrier invoices and note if you have any dimensional rate billing adjustments. Here is how much it can cost you: a 21 lbs. package, with dimensions of L48 x H24 x W24, shipping Ground from

Finding a Reliable Parcel Delivery Service is Something That Will Help Your Business To No End

With all the trouble surrounding Royal Mail recently, it's become more important to find yourself a reliable parcel delivery service. Opting for a delivery service is easy but it's not so easy to find yourself a reliable company who can help you out every single day. Taking your time to find the right options is the best thing to do and it can help your business out, no end.
It's never a good thing to rely on a business and then find out that they're going on strike or they don't have the workforce to deal with your business. This sort of thing can get very frustrating and it's why thousands of people have moved away from Royal Mail and are now focusing on finding a reliable courier or driver hire company.
Getting mail out to your customers such as products, newsletters etc. is very important and it's essential that you as the company provide a very reliable and fast service if you want to keep your customers. If you rely on a shoddy business to do this work for you, you can end up in a bit of a pickle.
Finding yourself a new parcel delivery service should be top of your list and it's not actually that hard to do. Search around on the web, ask around in your neighbourhood and see what you find. Good reviews are the best thing to look for online but do remember that people are much more inclined to tell a sob story online rather than a positive one.

What Services Do Couriers Offer?

What a lot of people don't realize is that there are courier companies out there that do a lot more than you realize. To some people, they think that all a courier does is pick up a parcel, throw it in the back of a van, and take it to wherever you asked them to. However, there are a lot of Chicago courier companies that do a lot more than that.

There are some services which tend to be offered by a lot of courier companies because they compliment the delivery business. There are also others which are offered by couriers that have chosen to diversify by offering more than one primary service in order to increase their income. The best way to find out exactly what kinds of services your courier is going to make available to you is by visiting their website.

One of the most common services to be offered by a courier is storage. In fact, it is starting to get to the point where you would be hard pressed to find a courier company that does not offer some kind of storage. The storage offered can range from huge warehouses for permanent storage, to short term storage facilities.
